Now, a Chinese web user has posted an online entry on China's social networking site Weibo yesterday saying "I am starving now. I have been fasting for nearly 24 hours with only water to drink."
Now other people have followed this gentleman's lead and they are all in ode of it being World Food Day.
Now this individuals' actions were also in line with a statement made earlier by the State Administration of Grain, or SAG, here in China who have called on their staff around the country to voluntarily fast today.
Now SAG says that the claim calls to raise public awareness about food.
Shu Gang is director of the Chengdu Grain Administration in southwest China's Sichuan Province, and he says this is to remind people that food security remains an issue and that deserves attention due to ever-increasing demand driven by China's enormous population.
And there's another little figure here that analysts estimate that about 85 million tons of grain are wasted in China during consumption and storage.
